PASSION WEEK DEVOTIONS
The Passion Week of Christ—April 13-20
Devotions for Passion Week:
This is the Passion Week of Christ. It is a time of looking at what Jesus did the last week of His life here on earth. Here are daily teachings and actions of Jesus in Jerusalem that led up to His Resurrection, to assist you in rediscovering Christ’s Passion. Take time to read and meditate on Jesus this week, remembering what He did to give you NEW LIFE. Allow God to renew your passion for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Monday: Luke 19:45-48
Jesus enters the temple and declares, “My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.” What does Jesus mean when he says “My house will be a house of prayer”? How do we make His house a “den of robbers”? Reading in Matthew 21:12-14, what happened when Jesus “purified” (cleaned out) the temple? (vs. 14) Why do you think this happened?
Tuesday: Luke 20 & 21
Reading Chapter 20, verse 18, what does Jesus mean when he says, “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed?” Who is the stone? (I Peter 2:4-10) How is one “broken”? What is Jesus saying about those who will be “crushed”? And in chapter 21, verses 1-4, why did the poor widow give more than the others? In chapter 21, verses 5-36, Jesus speaks of the end times and his coming again. In verse 36, Jesus gives us instructions. What are they and why are his instructions so important?
Wednesday: Luke 22:1-6
Why do you think Judas betrayed Jesus? How have you betrayed Jesus in your life? Are there areas in your life today that you need to surrender?
Maundy Thursday: Luke 22:7-53
In verses 19-20, Jesus serves his disciples in what we call “The Lord’s Supper” or "Communion". What is the significance of this act of worship? What does it mean to you? In verses 31-34, Jesus predicts Peter’s betrayal. What comforting message does Jesus give Peter, even knowing that Peter would betray him? How does this make you feel about your own failures in your Christian life? In verses 39-46, Jesus gives powerful insight into the prayer of submission. What is that insight (vs. 42)? In verse 46, what instructions does Jesus give us on how to overcome temptation?
Good Friday: Luke 22:54 to 23:55
Read carefully and slowly all that took place during this time. Jesus was falsely accused of his crimes. He was hated for his love for the sinner and for his proclamation being God’s Son. Jesus said in John 15:20-21 that his servants would experience the same treatment that he received. Suffering and sacrifice are part of our life with Christ - don’t run from it, embrace it. To encourage you more, read Hebrews 11—12:3, a powerful message.
Holy Saturday: Luke 23:56
After Jesus was buried, they rested on the Sabbath (Saturday). Take some time to review your week and all that Jesus did to give you NEW LIFE and ETERNAL LIFE. Prepare your heart for Sunday’s celebration.
Easter Sunday: Luke 24, HE IS RISEN!!!
Celebrate Life – The Good News for All People – Jesus is Risen!! Life would never again be the same for mankind. Take time to praise him with a joyful heart. Take time today to remember where you were before Christ saved you. See you at church!
